Classes & Workshops

contemporary fine art embroidery

This Fiber Focus Series course is presented in partnership with 108|Contemporary

This class will begin with a small introduction to a few established contemporary artists using embroidery as a medium for their work in order to understand and learn the varied embroidery techniques they utilize in their practice. Participants will receive demonstrations from a local, working fiber artist in traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques during each session. Because of the time intensive nature of embroidery some outside work will be required but by the end of the session each participant will have at least 4 completed embroideries to show along with a plethora of working knowledge they can use to grow and refine their craft.

In this class you will work non-objectively and focus on non-representational imagery. We will also experiment with fabric paint and patterned fabrics as appliqué/collage.

Beginners are welcome! No previous sewing or embroidery experience is required. A basic knowledge/understanding of drawing would be helpful but not necessary.
