This five-day camp is for beginning photographers who want to take their interest in photography and portfolio development to the next level. Students will learn the fundamentals of darkroom photography and the ways in which projects can be created, developed, and showcased. Through an immersive combination of art history, darkroom operations, and project building, students will enhance their skills and learn the multitude of ways that photography can be a tool for expression. The end of the week will culminate in a mini exhibition that campers organize to display their work. Students will leave the camp with the foundation and confidence to continue their exploration of photography.
Megan Hosmer is a Tulsa-based artist and 2019 graduate of the University of Tulsa where she earned degrees in art history, photography, sociology, and museum studies. Megan is primarily a photographer – both digital and analog – but enjoys experimenting with different mediums such as collage and printmaking. As both the daughter of a professor and a lover of adventure, she has traveled extensively throughout her life, both within and outside of the US. This exposure to different cultures and values has shaped her artistic exploration of social justice and identity.
During her undergraduate studies, Megan completed Womanhood | Motherhood, a two-year project in which she photographed women and mothers throughout Tulsa. Photos from this project have been featured in various exhibitions in the United States including a 2017 show at Stiches and Pics, a woman-run gallery in Sackets Harbor, New York. Megan finds her artistic inspiration from the stories of those around her and continues to use her art to bridge barriers in her community.
