Learn simple ways to dramatically improve your iPhone (or Android) photos. Whether you’re looking to capture great landscape and architectural photos, wanting to take better family photos, explore macro photography, or just wanting to learn some helpful tips that will get you out observing your surrounding in a new and exciting way this class is for you! We will spend time covering basic photography principles, learning our way around our cameras, and delve into a few editing apps. We will practice our new techniques in class, do a photo walk and receive feedback afterwards.
I have not walked a straight line toward a career in photography but it was while I was on a pilgrimage in Spain on the Camino de Santiago that I decided to take a leap of faith to pursue my lifelong dream. Initially I started shooting pictures with my iPhone which I enjoyed for its flexibility and technical ease. Now I shoot with both a DSLR and my iPhone. I love taking pictures while traveling to beautiful places but my favorite photos to take are of the urban and industrial landscapes. You can often find me in alleyways and old warehouses, places most people pass by. Finding beauty in unexpected places has been, in part, how I’ve fallen in love with my adopted home of Tulsa.
Photography has compelled me to pay deeper attention and increased my gratitude for my immediate surroundings. With my busy family life sometimes my backyard is the farthest I can travel and even there, using my macro lens, I have found subjects and unique perspectives that capture my eye and feel fresh and new: ice crystals outlining the edges of a leaf, the amazing architecture inside an echinacea flower. Through my macro lens I can view a whole world within a few square feet. Photography has helped me see the beauty around us, no matter where we are, and to inspire others to see it as well!
