Come get your hands a little – or a lot – muddy as you mold your own clay creation that will stand the test of time! Campers will learn the science behind what makes kiln-fire clay so miraculously moldable. They will also get to try their hands at each of the three basic hand-building techniques – coiling, pinch pot, and slab work – bringing home at least one colorful glazed project in each of the three techniques.
Kirsten Johnson is a jack-of-all-art, loving to tinker in anything from clay, jewelry making, acrylic painting, photography, and a wide variety of fiber arts. She even sings and acts! She got her start teaching art as a Teaching Artist with ahha many, many ages ago. She took a break to work in the real world then came back to teaching art with TPS for the past three years, first at Kerr Elementary, then at Hale Jr. High, and now at Emerson Elementary. Kirsten loves to teach the valuable life lessons that all art forms bring to students of all ages. Oftentimes, her students, and her son, are the ones who inspire her personal artwork.
