Sometimes beauty is best appreciated in its simplest form! Learn to use basic, recycled, and repurposed household items to create a beautiful bowl or basket using basic sewing techniques. For this class, we will use 100% cotton household materials and thread, and extensions will be provided on various ways to alter the shape and size of your baskets. Using a basic zig-zag machine or hand stitch, students will learn how to repeat the meditative and relaxing technique until they’ve achieved the shape desired to create the perfect, yet functional, home accent. And, since everything will be 100% cotton, adding dye to create various pops of color is easy!
Machine sewing knowledge and experience is recommended but not required for this class.
Kirsten Johnson is a jack-of-all-art, loving to tinker in anything from clay, jewelry making, acrylic painting, photography, and a wide variety of fiber arts. She even sings and acts! She got her start teaching art as a Teaching Artist with ahha many, many ages ago. She took a break to work in the real world then came back to teaching art with TPS for the past three years, first at Kerr Elementary and now at Hale Jr. High. Kirsten loves to teach the valuable life lessons that all art forms bring to students of all ages. Often times, her students, and her son, are the ones who inspire her personal artwork.
Thanks to the generosity of many donors, ahha Tulsa provides camp, class, and workshop scholarships to currently enrolled K–12 students with demonstrated financial need.
