Learn to make you own woven wall hanging, from warping your own loom and getting to know common weaving tools and techniques, to finishing and hanging! Students will work on their very own laser-cut lap loom that will make an 8” x 15″ (with fringe) weaving. Techniques include will include plain weaving, sumak weave (braid weave), and Rya knots (fringe) with different yarns, fabrics, and wool rovings.
You’ll leave this two-session class with a completed weaving, as well as a new loom, tools, and knowledge to continue making fiber art at home!
Jackie Spears is a self-taught fiber artist, crafter, and collector of yarn. As a way to use up a lot of fiber she’d accumulated over the years, she found weaving to be the perfect fit! To Jackie, weaving is a very intuitive art and requires no specific pattern, like painting with yarn. With a 3 year old and an infant at home she found weaving to be a relaxing art outlet. It allows her to take her time and not rush creativity.
