Exhibition Statement

Woodturning in America has evolved into an art form displayed in galleries and museums around the world. Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturners’ Association presents the current evolution of turning nature’s medium into a contemporary art form.

The Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturners’ Association (NEOWTA) was started in 1986 by a few men with the common interest in shaping wood on a lathe with hand held tools. They met in each other’s shop to share techniques and increase their knowledge of turning wood. Now in their 31st year, NEOWTA has grown into a 501c3 non-profit corporation with over one hundred and thirty members from the northeastern Oklahoma area.

Now located in their own facility at 10117 East 50 th Street, they host meetings, have a display gallery and a classroom shop with ten lathes. Their activities include monthly meetings open to the public, demonstrations, and seminars by professional turners from around the world, classes for beginners and advanced turners and social gatherings.
